Solgate is a research-driven biopharmaceutical startup that develops drugs targeting solute carrier (SLC) proteins, the largest family of membrane transporters. By modulating the function of the “gates” to cellular metabolism, Solgate aims to address unmet medical needs in immunology- and metabolism-based disorders. Solgate is located in the newly established xistaPark, a space housing a growing community of technology startups and biotech companies, adjacent to IST Austria in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna.
Solgate is seeking to hire a motivated and accomplished Research Associate in Biotechnology/Biology to join our fast-growing interdisciplinary research team. Together, you will take part in developing novel small molecule therapeutics that modulate the functions of membrane transporters. The position is part of a team of scientists working together at the interface of functional genomics, molecular biology, chemistry, and advanced computational methodology.
Role and Responsibilities
- Execute and optimize cell-based and molecular biology experiments to test small molecules and support drug discovery projects
- Generate, maintain, and characterize engineered mammalian cell lines using genome engineering approaches
- Analyse, interpret, and communicate experimental results to multidisciplinary project teams
- Maintain accurate laboratory documentation using electronic laboratory notebooks
- Present scientific findings during team meetings and contribute to project discussions
- Support laboratory organization, including ordering reagents and ensuring equipment functionality
- Ensure laboratory organization and compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Contribute to troubleshooting experimental challenges and continuous improvement of laboratory workflows
To accomplish the responsibilities of this role, the candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills in addition to rigorous scientific thinking.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related life science discipline
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques
- Experience developing or running cell-based assays in multi-well formats (96-/384-well)
- Experience in laboratory automation and robotics (high-throughput screening)
- Experience designing, performing, documenting, and interpreting biological experiments
- Strong organizational skills and careful experimental record keeping
- Adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); working knowledge of German is welcomed but not required

Considered an Advantage
- At least one year of laboratory experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Genome engineering / functional genomics approaches
- Immunology-based assays (e.g., ELISA, FACS)
- Microscopy (e.g., fluorescence, high-content imaging)
- Knowledge of transporter biology, metabolism, and/or immunology is a plus
At Solgate, you will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills to advance your career and take part in the growth of Solgate.
